Spring is here and it’s time to enjoy all the delicious fresh produce we have available. Fruit desserts are perfect for this time of year because they offer some sweet satisfaction while proving significantly lighter than your winter favourites. Here are some scrumptious dessert ideas for the season.

Fruit salad

A classic fruit salad it one of the most popular of all fruit desserts. Not only is it simple, but it is also delicious and healthy. All you need to do is chop up your favourite fruits and toss them together. Remember, if you are adding apples or pairs, you should make sure that you dunk them in some lemon juice water or spray some lemon juice over them before adding to your salad. Some fruits are not suited for fruit salad. Bananas are one such example because they are quick to blacken and there is nothing you can do about it. Fruit salad can be dressed with some syrup that you can drain from a can of pineapples or peaches, for example. This will add to the sweetness. You can also serve with some vanilla ice cream if you like.

Fruit platters

If you are looking for fruit desserts that will allow your guests to pick and choose, you can serve fruit platters. All you need to do is select an uneven number of fruits and prepare them each appropriately. Grapes should be washed but do not need to be cut. Melon should be cut into bite size chunks. Pineapple should also be sliced and then cut into smaller chunks. Berries, like grapes, can be washed and left as is. It helps to wash berries in a vinegar and water solution so as to prevent them from spoiling too quickly. Once you have all of your fruit ready, you will need to arrange them in such a way that the colours alternate. For example, you do not want to place apples next to pairs. You should place something orange in between, like melon or peach slices. Set your platter on the table with tongs and allow your guests to serve themselves.

Stewed fruit

Stewed fruit is one of the best desserts for a cooler spring evening. After dinner, you might want something fruity yet warm. You can serve stewed fruit, like peaches or guava, with some delicious vanilla custard.

Fruit cobbler

Yet another warmer option, fruit cobblers can be made using various types of fruit including peaches, pears and apples. If you like, you can even make a mixed fruit cobbler. Cobblers should be served warm and you can add fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

These are just a few excellent fruit desserts that you can enjoy over the next few months as we approach summer. Some, like a fresh fruit salad, will be a delicious option even when the weather continues to warm up.
