So you have a special occasion coming up and you want to order the perfect gift hamper. Since you cannot have the gift delivered on the day, you will need it to arrive one or two days in advance. The only problem that this might present is the fact that you will need to find a suitable hiding place. Even if you don’t live with the recipient, the last thing you want is for them to stop by unexpectedly and find their gift before the time!
The first point to keep in mind is the weather. When storing a gift hamper, you need to consider the contents and the current temperatures. You don’t want the hamper to get too hot or too cold. For this reason, you don’t want to store your hamper near any heat sources or anywhere it might get too cold.
Look for a cool (not cold), dark, and dry space. If the room is known for having plenty of humidity, you should use a dehumidifier too keep moisture at bay. Do not allow the sun to shine on the hamper. If the gift contains any chocolates or similar goodies, they will be affected by the heat of the sun even if it’s not a particularly hot day. In addition, when the sun strikes the plastic wrap, it will cause condensation to form inside the wrapping. This will certainly compromise the quality of the contents.
The best place to hide a hamper is inside a cupboard where it will not be found by the recipient or young kids if you have any. That said, you should make sure that the cupboard is free of any detergents or soaps. Even mothballs or lavender can penetrate the plastic and affect the flavour of any food items in the gift.
Whenever possible, have the gift hamper delivered as close to the event as possible. The longer a hamper is stored, the greater the chances of something affecting those delicious goodies.
