The perfect pie depends on the perfect crust. Making your own pie crust need not be a complicated process and you don’t need too may ingredients either. Here is how to make the perfect pie crust without breaking a sweat!
Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ΒΌ cup butter or shortening
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp ice cold water
  • 1 egg

Method:

  • Beat the egg in a bowl and add the vinegar and cold water before placing in the fridge.
  • In another bowl, sift together the flour and salt.
  • Cut the butter or shortening into pieces and add to the flour.
  • Use your pastry blender of food processer to cut the butter (or shortening) into the flower. You should continue mixing until you have pieces the size of peas. Remember to work quickly since you do not want the butter to melt.
  • Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir loosely.
  • Flip ont a clean surface and remember NOT to overmix or knead!
  • Flatten the pastry dough between two pieces of plastic wrap and place in the fridge. If you flatten the dough now, it will be easier to work with later.
  • Chill overnight and use the following day to make your favourite pie!
