Classic vanilla fudge is a popular treat and the best news of all is that you will only need a few basic ingredients! Whenever making any kind of fudge, it’s very much a hands on task which means that you will need to set aside a few minutes to make the perfect fudge.
You will need:

  • 397g condensed milk (1 can)
  • 450g sugar
  • 115g butter
  • 20cm square tin (lined with parchment paper)

Instructions:

  • Place all of the ingredients in a non-stick pot and slowly melt over a low heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Bring the mixture to the boil before allowing to simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Be careful when mixing the fudge. Not only is it very hot, but it’s also sticky which means that if some spills on you, it can result in burns. To test if your fudge is ready, you can drop a small ball in some ice-cold water. A soft fall should form. Another way of checking is by using a sugar thermometer. Once it reaches 118°C, your fudge is ready.
  • Remove the fudge from heat, beat it until it’s thick and starts to set (about 10 minutes)
  • Pour into the lined tin and allow to cool before cutting into squares.
  • If you want to add something extra, you can include nuts, chocolate chips, or fruit to your fudge after completing the second step in this recipe.
