When you receive a gift hamper, it’s most often packaged and beautifully presented inside a wicker basket. These baskets vary in size depending on the size of the basket and, as a result, they can all be reused for various purposes around the home.
Small gift baskets are often used to hold things like decorative soaps while larger ones are great as bread baskets. They can even be reused as gift baskets when you want to present your gift in a personal and unique way.
Some baskets are tough and large enough to be used as shelving. Of course, you wouldn’t place then in an upright position but rather sideways with the base fixed to the wall. The heavier the basket, the larger the brackets will need to be. You will need L-shaped brackets and screws that are long enough to penetrate the basket, bracket and fit securely inside the wall.
Start by securing your brackets to the basket with the top part of the L on the top part of the basket. The lower part of the L should be between the wall and the base of the basket. Hold your basket up to the wall and use a spirit level to make sure that it’s even before securing the basket to the wall.
Another important tip to remember when using baskets for shelves is that you should never overload them. They are great for holding lightweight items like towels, toilet paper, and various other lightweight toiletries.
These baskets can be used in various parts of the home. In the living room you might like to use them as a neat spot for family photos, perhaps some potpourri, or even some flowers if the basket is large enough and the bouquet is small enough. In the kitchen, you could use this kind of shelf for your spices or dishtowels. In your study or den, you could use it for lightweight stationery like pencils, perhaps a small notepad, and so on. You are only limited by your imagination!
