In the winter months there’s nothing better than warming up with your favourite beverage.  Even drinks that are served cold or at room temperature have a way of warming you up from the inside out.  The following is a list of some of the best whiskey based drinks to get you through the winter.
Irish Coffee
For real Irish Coffee, you will need an Irish whiskey!  Once you have selected your favourite bottle, it’s time to brew a pot, whip some cream and prepare for a delicious variation of one of the most popular hot beverages in the world!  If you are not a fan of cream, you can leave it out completely and the amount of sugar you add is entirely up to you.  You can also use decaf if regular coffee keeps you up all night.  Irish Coffee is the perfect way to finish any meal and you might even find yourself craving more than one!
Manhattan
This cocktail requires a rye whiskey and is a wonderful option to keep in mind when hosting a cocktail party in the winter or even  a Christmas Eve dinner.
Suburban
This is another classy cocktail suitable for winter and consists of a blend of rye whiskey, dark rum, port and two varieties of bitters.  Served in a Martini glass, you will feel like a rock star with one of these in hand!
Esky’s Hot Spot
This cocktail was conjured up by Esquire’s founder, Arnold Gingrich and it includes a blend of Irish whiskey, water, a sugar cube and a lemon peel.  You can even add a dash of nutmeg if you like – which is quite a popular option in the winter.  While this drink is more on the refreshing side, you are sure to get nice and warm thanks to the whiskey!
Millionaire
All you need for this fine cocktail is rye whiskey, Grand Marnier, grenadine and egg whites!  Like many other drinks mentioned above, this classy drink is also served in a cocktail glass which will make you feel like a million bucks!
Don’t forget the shots!
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a quality whiskey all on its own.  On the rocks or neat – whichever way you prefer.  Take a seat in your favourite spot in the living room, enjoy the warm glow of the fire that lights the room and slowly sip on your glass as you take some time to reflect on the year gone by.
If you prefer the “down the hatch” approach, then there’s nothing quite like a suitcase!  One shot of Jack Daniels followed by a separate shot of passion fruit cordial.  Take the shot of whiskey and keep it in your mouth as you add the cordial.  Swirl it around and down they go!
