Christmas time is baking time and there are plenty of delicious recipes that you and your family will love! If you are looking for some scrumptious seasonal baking ideas, here are a few great ideas.
Cookies
Cookies are easy and fun. You can even get the kids involved when it comes to decorating them. Simply invest in some festive cookie cutters and choose your favourite recipes. Choc chip, shortbread, and gingerbread are just three of the top cookies for this time of year. If you are feeling particularly adventurous, you could try your hand at making your very own gingerbread house! Make sure that you follow your gingerbread recipe to the letter and use strong icing sugar to glue all the pieces in place. Thicker icing sugar should also be used for decorating so that it doesn’t drip or run.
Fruit cake
Fruit cake is a traditional sweet treat for this time of year. They are often sent as part of gift hampers but many people also love baking their own. There are many different recipes out there and you can add almost anything! If you fancy nuts, you can add walnuts and almonds too. You can opt for a non-alcoholic version or add brandy (and baste with brandy) for that extra kick!
Chocolate baked goods
Chocolate is one of the top winter comfort foods and brownies are at the top of the list. They are much like chocolate cake but they are more moist and they are certainly more on the sticky side. A delicious hot option, if you fancy warm puddings, is a good old chocolate cobbler. Rich in chocolate flavour, saucy, and irresistable! Serve as is or top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Pies
Don’t forget about those pies! Mince pies are a traditional favourite but you could get away with just about any pie around this time of year. Apple pie and pumpkin pie are always a great hit and many recipes can be frozen if you want to save any leftovers for another night.
