When you are on a tight budget, it is easy to fall into a bit of a rut in terms of cooking. Cheap meals are often associated with limited nutrition or even poor nutrition. Most cheap foods on the market are not as healthy as they should be and many contain empty calories too. Fortunately, there are some great easy options that taste great and won’t break the bank!
If you love potatoes, you can bake a potato in its jacket and fill with sumac and whipped feta. This is a scrumptious treat all on its own or you could serve it as a side item along with the main dish. If you want to enjoy this as a meal, then you should use larger potatoes or enjoy more than one. Smaller potatoes are best if you want to serve this dish as a side item.
Delicious lemon pepper steaks are succulent and easy to prepare. One great thing about meats as filling as steak is that you do not need a large portion. In fact, it’s better to enjoy a smaller portion of meat along with some grains and vegetables. A wide selection of veggies will make the plate that much more colourful and it’s great for nutritional reasons too.
Spice up your old frittata recipe by adding cherry tomatoes, coriander, and masala paste. This is an excellent dish for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Serve while warm and pair with avocado salsa for that extra boost of flavour and Omega 3.
Pasta is always a cheap option when it comes to dinner but we tend to get into a bit of a rut when it comes to pasta recipes. We settle for the regular lasagna, spaghetti bolognese, and so on. Why not switch the mince meat out for your favourite smoked or spicey sausage instead. Slice the sausages, chop some onion and cook. Add minced garlic and a couple of cans of diced tomatoes, a splash of water and season to taste. Serve with your favourite pasta and you have something scrumptious and affordable!
