You may already know that whisky can be used in various recipes. However, you might not know that you can make a delicious whisky caramel sauce. You will need just a few basic ingredients and the recipe is super easy to follow too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of whisky
  • 3 Tablespoons of butter
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the sugar with the butter and do not mix it until it starts to melt.
  • Once it starts to melt, you can stir now and then with a fork.
  • Cook the sugar until the caramel until it reaches a deep amber colour. Do not let it get too dark or it will have a burned flavour.
  • Remove the caramel from heat and add the whisky along with a pinch of salt.
  • The caramel will produce steam and start to get harder.
  • Place back on the stove over low heat and stir while the caramel dissolves.
  • Allow the whisky caramel sauce to cool slightly before serving over your favourite dessert. It is particularly delicious with ice cream.
  • If you need to make this sauce in advance, you can place plastic wrap over the cooled pot/pan and refrigerate. When ready to serve, heat slowly and just enough to make the sauce easier to pour since chilling it will make it more solid.
