If you are looking for a scrumptious snack to serve your guests before you sit down to enjoy a meal or even as you gather to watch the game, you will love this cheese sticks recipe! Not only will you need just a few simple ingredients, but you will find that the directions are super simple too. It won’t take more than a few minutes to prepare everything before you pop them in the oven to bake. Here’s how to make your very own fresh and delicious cheese sticks.

You will need:

  • ½ package of frozen puff pastry (17.5 ounces)
  • 2 tsp of olive oil
  • 1 pinch of salt and black pepper
  • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • ¼ cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 5 Tbsp of shredded Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese (divided)

Directions:

  • Before you get started on this cheese sticks recipe, you will need to turn on that oven. It will need to heat up to 200 degrees C so you want to get the ball rolling.
  • Line a baking sheet with a sheet of parchment paper.
  • Flour a clean surface that you will use for unrolling the puff pastry. Remember to let the pastry thaw out enough so that it does not break up as you unfold it.
  • Use a brush to coat the pastry with some olive oil.
  • Season with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper according to your personal taste.
  • Next, sprinkle some cheddar cheese over the top of the pastry and half of the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese too.
  • Cover the dough with some plastic wrap and press the seasoning ingredients firmly into the dough before you remove the plastic.
  • With a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into three equal pieces. You want to make sure that they are wide strips so you will cut them across rather than lengthwise.
  • Next, cut each of these pieces into another three pieces so that you have 9 portions in total.
  • Twist each of these strips from each end so that the seasoned side is on the exterior.
  • Place your cheese sticks on a baking sheet and sprinkle the rest of your Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese over the top.
  • Roll the sticks gently just to even out their shapes and to pick up any extra cheese.
  • Bake for approximately 10 minutes before you flip them over and bake for another 10 to 20 minutes.
  • When they are done, they will remain firm when picked up. If they flop over, they need to be baked a little longer.
  • Place on a wire rack and allow to cool before serving.

This cheese sticks recipe can easily be doubled or tripled, depending on how many guests you are expecting. You can serve your cheese sticks with some delicious dips too. Just avoid cheesy dips since this will prove a little be too much for the taste buds. Usually something like guacamole, salsa or even creamy dips are perfect.
