As the weather changes, so too do our taste buds. It’s important to note that refreshing wines are perfect for hot days but, on cooler occasions, you need something that will warm you up just a little. Here are some of the best autumn wines to consider.
Tempranillo
This is a Spanish wine that will certainly warm you up on a chilly autumn evening. It is a red wine and it is known for its earthy tobacco, nutmeg, clove or cinnamon flavour, depending on the bottle you choose. These autumn wines will certainly be a hit with your guests too.
Sémillon
Autumn wines need not all be red. This full-bodied white wine is made from a French-born grape which is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc. When paired with autumn veggies, you can be sure that it will bring out even the most subtle of flavours.
Barbera
These autumn wines are known as the wine of the people in Northern Italy. They have a rich and light-bodied feel to them. In other words, these wines are ideal for the changing of the seasons and to help you transition from summer to winter.
Grenache
Fruity and perfect for this cooler time of year, these autumn wines are known for their hints of cloves, herbs, strawberry and raspberry aromas. Enjoy with a stew or simply pour a glass to enjoy after a long day at work.
Chenin Blanc
Yet another white wine option to consider for the cooler weeks ahead. These autumn wines are aged in oak. This means that they are quite similar to Chardonnay and they are an excellent choice for this time of year.
Now you have several excellent options when it comes to serving autumn wines within the next few weeks. It’s good to note that winter will bring about yet another change as temperatures drop further and we tend to crave ‘heavier’ beverages.
