Ice coffee is the perfect treat on warmer days when you feel the need for that caffeine boost but you are not particularly in the mood for a warm beverage. To make this chilled drink just right, it’s important that you use quality ingredients and the appropriate quantities. Here’s an easy recipe to follow.

Iced coffee ingredients:

  • 1lb ground coffee
  • 8 qt. Cold water
  • A splash of cream or milk per serving
  • 2 – 3 Tbsp sweetened condensed per serving

Method:

  • Start by mixing your ground coffee with water in a large container.
  • Cover the container and allow the mixture to sit at room temperature for twelve hours. You might like to do this overnight for convenience.
  • Use cheesecloth to line a fine mesh strainer.
  • Place the strainer over a pitcher or another container
  • Pour the coffee and water mixture through the strainer and allow the water to flow through.
  • Discard the coffee grounds or use them in your garden to repel various bugs.
  • Place the coffee in your fridge and allow to cool.
  • When you are ready to serve your iced coffee, place ice cubes in a glass and fill 2/3 of the way with the coffee from your fridge.
  • Add a good splash of milk or cream.
  • Stir in some sweetened condensed milk.
  • Taste and adjust the recipe if necessary

If you would like a lighter option, this iced coffee recipe can be adjusted. You can use 2% or skim milk instead of cream and you can also use artificial sweeteners instead of condensed milk. For something a bit more indulgent, you can add some chocolate syrup to your glass and top with whipped cream and some cocoa powder for a chocolate twist.
