When you want a snack but you prefer homemade to store bought, you need to try this easy crackers recipe! Not only are they delicious, but they are also really easy to make with just a few basic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 2 tsp fresh herbs (according to your preferences)
- 1 tsp fresh ground pepper (or less if preferred)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup cold water
- Cheese to top your crackers when serving
Directions
- Before you begin making your crackers, preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Pulse together the flour, herbs, pepper, salt, sugar and olive oil in a food processor.
- Add water and pulse until you get a dough consistency (about 10 seconds).
- Remove the dough and press gently with your hands to form a ball.
- Cut the ball into four pieces and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out each piece of dough as thin as possible. If it starts to shrink while rolling, let the dough rest a bit more before rolling it out. You want the dough to be very thin.
- Once rolled out, place on some parchment paper and then on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 4 – 5 minutes and check regularly to make sure that it’s not browning too much.
- Flip the cracker pieces over and bake for another 4 – 5 minutes.
- Turn the oven off and allow the crackers to sit in the oven for about an hour or two to dry out and get nice and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and break into pieces before serving with your favourite cheese, dip or any other topping you like.
These crackers are excellent when paired with beer or wine. You will love nibbling on them during the game or even as you entertain guests for any special occasion or dinner party. Try combining different types of herbs to create various flavours. The key to finding out what works best for you is experimenting with as many flavours as possible. Remember, some herbs are stronger than others and should be used in small quantities. If you fancy some spice, you can even add chilli or paprika.
