If you love baking fun treats for the holidays, you will absolutely adore this easy recipe for fun snowman biscuits. Below, you will find instructions to make the biscuits and decorating tips. Of course, if you have a different biscuit recipe, you could always use it instead and simply decorate as described. The only biscuits that are not ideal for this recipe are those with chips. This is mostly due to the texture and the fact that they won’t give you that smooth surface to work with.

Snowman biscuits ingredients:

For the biscuits:

  • 125g butter (softened)
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 250g flour plus extra for dusting

For decorating:

  • 400g white fondant
  • Icing sugar for dusting
  • 100g mixed red, black, blue and yellow icing
  • Tube white icing (or you can make your own)
  • Tube black icing (or you can make your own)

Please note, if you are not fond of icing, there are chocolate alternatives. You can substitute the white icing with white chocolate and each colour icing with that colour chocolate. Or, you can use a combination of the two if you prefer. So, white chocolate for the base and icing for the colourful décor. This recipe is very flexible.

Directions for making snowman biscuits:

  • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
  • Add the beaten egg and vanilla.
  • Add the flout and mix until it becomes a soft dough.
  • Tip out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently.
  • Place the dough on a plate, cover and chill for a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Once ready, place the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out to a thickness of about 0.5cm.
  • Cut round forms like a snowman’s head using a glass or round cookie cutter. This is a recipe for snowman biscuits after all!
  • Bake on lined baking trays for 8 – 14 minutes or until the edges start to brown.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Roll out the white fondant icing on a surface dusted with icing sugar. Use the same glass or cookie cutter to cut out round shapes of white icing.
  • Apply some white icing from the tube to the biscuit and then stick the round fondant on top.
  • You can mix some yellow and blue fondant to create green if you don’t buy a green back all on its own.
  • Now you can roll out one of the coloured icings, like red, and stamp out circles again. Cut them in half this time to use as hats. Place them on top of your snowman biscuits and remember to secure with some tube icing sugar.
  • You an add stripes or spots of colour to the hats using different coloured fondant. You can even place a pom pom on top of their hats if you like.
  • Use black icing to make dots for eyes and dotted mouths. Use some orange icing or fondant for the nose.
