The perfect Mother’s Day gift depends on a number of factors. One great way of guiding your decision is to consider the age of her child or children. Being the mother of an infant is very different to being the mother of a teenager and mum’s age can also help you decide. Here are some ideas for each stage of motherhood.
Newborns
New mothers are often going through a period of adjustment. While this time is very exciting for everyone, it can also be exhausting and overwhelming. The most important thing that she will need is rest and relaxation. The newborn baby probably keeps her up at night and she might even be skipping meals. You can help out by preparing all of the meals for the day, tending to baby and giving mum the day off! She also might like to feel a bit pampered so you could order a pamper hamper just for her. Let her take a long soak in the tub as she enjoys the soothing scents of the bath products before slipping into her favourite robe.
Toddlers
By now mum is probably getting a bit more rest at night but she is even more on the go during the day. These little humans are still fairly dependent on mum and she has to keep a watchful eye as they explore everything they can as quickly as possible. It’s a wonderful yet exhausting time for everyone – mum in particular. Why not treat her to some time to herself? A relaxing spa day with treatments like a facial, pedicure, manicure and massage are just what she needs to feel like her old self! If you cannot take her to the spa, you can always bring the spa to her. Have somebody watch your child or children while you treat mum to a relaxing massage with aromatherapy or have one of her best friends come over and do her nails if you prefer. It’s all about making her feel beautiful and loved. Another great gift to consider is a champagne hamper or even a chocolate hamper if she has a sweet tooth.
Teens
Once children reach those teen years, it can be easier in some areas and a bit rough in others. There is often a bit of a power struggle that can leave mum feeling mentally and emotionally drained. You can make a fun family affair by taking mum out for lunch or even a picnic. You could also treat her to an elegant wine hamper or gin gift if she prefers.
Empty Nest
Once the kids grow up and leave the nest, it can leave mum with a bit of a sad sensation when Mother’s Day comes around. By this time, kids are usually financially independent and they can each afford to buy a little something for mum. Examples include fresh flowers, decorative items that she can display in her home, jewellery and Mother’s Day gift hampers.
No matter how young or old mum’s children are, they will always be her babies and she will always love them unlike anyone else. Celebrate Mother’s Day and show her how much you appreciate her.
