During the winter, we often consume a fair amount of carbohydrates. Which is why so many people love the warmer weather – no more heavy foods. Here are some great ways of including the finest and most delicious spring produce in your diet over the next few months.
Vegetables
There are plenty of vegetables from which to choose. Some of the top spring choices include carrots, beets, spring greens, peas, leeks, scallions, and asparagus. Many of these veggies taste great together as well as on their own. Consider a mix of roasted veggies topped with a little bit of salt and pepper as a garnish with your favourite cut of meat or, if you are a vegetarian, you could enjoy a larger portion as your main course. If you enjoy cheese, you can top with cheese when the veggies are almost done. For pasta-lovers, if you are looking for something a little different by using risotto instead. Risotto is very versatile and you can add just about any vegetable and spice to create your very own favourite dish.
Seasonal fruits
Just like vegetables, there are also spring fruits and berries that you should always make the most of during these months. Examples include strawberries, apricots, pineapple, cherries, kiwi, lemons and grapefruit. These fruits can be enjoyed as snacks in between meals, as part of your breakfast, in salads, and even as dessert after a delicious meal. Fruit can be used in many different ways and different fruits offer different benefits which is why it’s good to include a variety of fresh fruits in your diet.
Get baking
Baking in the summer months might not be quite so appealing due to the heat. However, in the milder spring months, baking will not only keep your home cosy, but it will also smell amazing! Consider using fresh fruit to top your favourite cake and you can even make your own fruit glazes and jam too!
