Your ice trays are not only great for making perfect cubes of ice to chill your drinks. There are also plenty of other great ways you can put them to use. Here are some interesting ways you can make the most of your ice trays.
If you love fresh herbs but you don’t like the idea of wasting a single leaf from your herb garden, then you can preserve them in perfect portions. Clean, chop and freeze your fresh herbs in your ice trays. Set aside a different tray for each herb and enjoy the convenience.
You can use your ice trays to freeze smaller portions of beef, chicken, or vegetable stock. This will make them so much easier to add to your stews or soups to enhance their flavour in minutes! If you cook with wine, you can make wine ice cubes and add small quantities to your stews, sauces, and gravy as desired.
If you have some smoothie left over, put the leftovers in your ice tray and save for another day. You can do the same with leftover coffee and you can use it in your next cup of iced coffee or in your favourite coffee dessert.
If you have a baby, there is nothing better than homemade baby food. With all fresh ingredients, you are giving your baby the best! Of course, it’s time consuming and you don’t want to spend every day in the kitchen. So, freeze portions for baby to enjoy over the next couple of days. Now you only need to cook every two to three days!
Milk and cream can also be frozen for later use. If you find that you often use small quantities like in your coffee or when baking, then these cubes will make it that much easier to use what you need without wasting the rest!
For those who want to get a bit creative, you can use ice cube trays to make fun ice cubes for your drinks! Instead of plain ice, why not add a piece of fruit like a berry or grape? Make sure the fruit is small enough to fit in of course. If need be, you might need to fill them halfway, allow them to freeze and then top up the trays with more water so that the fruit is in the centre and does not float to the top.
