During the summer months, chilled wine is a refreshing treat. The only problem is that the refrigerator only makes the wine so cold and placing the bottle in the freezer is not ideal either. This is why many people choose to add ice to each glass. Unfortunately, ice melts and this waters down the wine. The good news is that you do have an alternative – fruit!
Fruit can be frozen and later used instead of ice blocks. The liquid inside the fruit freezes but, because the juice is contained within the fruit, it won’t water down your wine! Plus, there is no denying the fact that fruit makes your wine look even better!
Grapes are a popular option since wine is made from grapes, of course. You are not limited to grapes alone, however. You can also use various berries. Make sure that you wash the berries thoroughly before freezing them and remove stems too. Strawberries, cherries, raspberries, and other berries are all great options that freeze really well.
Another important tip to remember is to freeze in portions. You don’t want to freeze a large bag of fruit because they will stick together and it will be difficult to break them apart each time you need to add to a glass of wine.
Frozen fruit is not only great for chilling wine, but you can also use it in a wine spritzer, cocktails, and punch. Just make sure that you choose the right flavour to suit the beverage you wish to chill.
