There are plenty of sweets and treats out there but, let’s face it, they aren’t always ideal for children. If you want to create your own delicious sweets for your kids or grandkids, here are some scrumptious ideas!
Salt and sweet go so well together. So well, in fact, that your kids will love chocolate coated pretzels! All you need to do is melt some chocolate, dip your pretzels and place them on some parchment paper. Before the chocolate hardens, add some sprinkles for colour.
To make some delicious rocky road candy, you will need some chopped walnuts, marshmallows, and melted chocolate. Melt the chocolate first and then add your nuts and marshmallows. Stir over a double boiler until combined and deliciously melted together. Pour out onto some parchment paper, allow to harden and then cut into portions.
If they love Oreos, you can make some delicious truffles. Simply crush a couple of handsful of Oreos. Add some softened cream cheese (about 8 ounces) and mix well. Place the mixture in the fridge for about an hour to firm up. Once firm, use a spoon to scoop out the mixture and form into balls. Place the balls on baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate. Melt some chocolate and allow to cool slightly (without hardening) before dipping your truffles in it. Top with some larger crushed pieces of Oreos for that finishing touch. Keep in the fridge for up to one week.
Get creative with S’mores by roasting your marshmallows on skewers before dipping them in chocolate. Before the chocolate hardens, sprinkle some biscuit crumbs on top. You can use one marshmallow per skewer or you can place two together for double the delicious fun!
When preparing snacks for kids, the best part of all is getting the kids involved! Let them help you, let them taste, and let them make a mess. That’s the best part of all!
