Chocolate is a scrumptious treat that we sometimes feel just a little guilty after overindulging. Chocolate does, however, have some great nutritional and health benefits but moderation is most certainly the key. If you have ever thought about making your own chocolate, here is a great recipe to try! The ingredients are quite specific and you might not find them in your local supermarket but, with just a bit of hunting, they are not impossible to come by.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup cocoa butter
- ½ cup organic, raw cocoa powder
- ½ cup virgin coconut oil
- ¼ – ½ cup agave syrup (if desired)
Method:
- Grate ½ cup of cocoa butter to make it easier to melt.
- Measure ½ cup coconut oil too.
- Place the cocoa butter and the coconut oil in a small cup or bowl. Place this bowl in a shallow pan of hot (not boiling) water.
- Stir the two ingredients together until smooth.
- Measure ½ cup cocoa powder and measure any other dry ingredients you’d like to add for flavour (such as spices).
- Add the dry ingredients to the melted butter an oil.
- Stir until smooth.
- Add 4 – 6 tablespoons of agave syrup to sweeten if desired. You can skip this step if you like or you can add less syrup depending on your preferences.
- Taste your chocolate before you allow it to set and make sure that you are happy with the flavour.
- If you wish, you can add such ingredients and nuts and dried fruit at this point.
- Pour the chocolate mixture onto a tray or however you wish to allow it to set.
- For presentation, you can sprinkle something over the top like chopped nuts, seeds, or whatever you like.
- Place in the freezer for 30 minutes and then in the refrigerator for 60 minutes before serving.
