Serving up a feast for Christmas is not as tricky as it sounds. Christmas buffets are great for families of all sizes and they are especially great if you are entertaining guests. Since buffets are to include a number of types of food, it’s important to make sure that you have your list ready.
Meats are usually at the top of the list so you should choose three different types. Turkey is a popular choice but some prefer chicken. A nice smoked ham is also a good option and you could even serve roast beef.
Once you have chosen the meats, it’s time to choose those veggies. Including different coloured vegetables is important both for nutritional reasons and presentation. Peas, carrots, and corn are all great. If you prefer, you can serve green beans rather than peas. You will also need to choose between cauliflower and broccoli. Both of which can be served with white sauce or cheese sauce for extra flavour.
Don’t forget about those carbohydrates. You can serve roast potatoes or baked potatoes if you prefer. You can also serve rice. If you don’t fancy the idea of plain rice, you can make some savoury rice with onions, peppers, and a dash of herbs and spices. Gravy is also important for topping the meat and some other side items too.
These are all great items for the main course but you can also add salad items and a couple of soups to the beginning of your buffet line. A mini salad bar is a great idea with at least two salad dressings. For dessert, consider serving a couple of types of ice cream, perhaps some toppings, and a hot pudding like a chocolate or fruit cobbler. Fruit cake is also popular during this time of year and don’t forget to serve coffee and tea to finish off the meal perfectly.
