Whenever you receive a gift or a hamper, you most likely receive at least one small or medium sized box. This box usually contains snacks, sweets, or even bath products. Before you toss that box, take a moment ot consider whether you can put it to better use as a frame!
Firstly, take a look at the box and consider the shape. The box does not need to be square but it does need to be easy to open. Even if the box is flimsy, you can reinforce it using paper mache. Just make sure that you don’t seal the box shut when you do this! It’s also a good idea to cut the hole for the picture if your box does not already have one.
Now, before you begin, think of a theme. Consider the type of photo you would like to place in the frame before you plan the design. You will need to choose the type of frame and the colours based on this theme. For example, if you want to make a Christmas themed frame, you might like to stick to colours like green, red, and white. For school photos of your kids, you might prefer something like a pencil crayon frame. Seashells are excellent for beach themes and some other great options include rolled newspaper and pencil shavings.
Depending on the type of frame, you might like to paint before or after applying the accessories. For example, newspaper rolls or pencil crayons can be used to cover the entire front of the frame. As for seashell, they might be used more sparingly and, in this case, you might want to paint the frame first.
Finally, don’t forget to take your time and don’t rush any of the steps. Finally, if your box does not already have a transparent window, you can used a sheet of laminating paper to create the window. Stick to the inside of the box using superglue. Add tringles of laminating paper to the inside of the box where you will most likely insert your photo. If you cannot open your frame, you could add to pieces of laminating film (one at the top and the other at the bottom). Only glue the one end down so that you can slide the photo in and out.
