Pancakes are delicious for breakfast and even just as a sweet treat when those sugary cravings set in. Of course, pancakes are even better when you top them with just the right ingredients! There are a number of ingredients that you can add to your pancake mixture but, when you add toppings, these ingredients have an even stronger flavour than if they were blended with the rest of the batter.
Honey and syrup are common toppings. Apart from mapel syrup and honey, there are also other syrups with various flavours. Depending on your preferences, you can choose from a wide range including strawberry, chocolate, caramel, and so many more!
Jam is another great option and, like syrup, there are plenty of flavours out there. Many people agree that their favourite jams for pancakes are those made from berries. So, strawberry, raspberry, and similar flavours are sure to be a hit.
Whipped cream is an excellent choice and it’s not as heavy as some might think. Especially when you pair your whipped cream with some of your favourite jam! Spread the jam lightly on the pancake and top with cream before enjoying!
Chocolate spreads and choc chips are also popular. You even use a combination of chocolate and cream or chocoalte and jam if you have a super sweet tooth. Choc chips and spreads are also available in various flavours so there’s plenty of variety out there.
Custard is also a great idea. If you are so inclined, you could even make your own pancake tart! Simply make a few fluffy pancakes and then top them with some chocolate spread. Place one chocolate coated pancake in a lined baking tin before adding a layer of custard (must be firm when chilled), add another pancake layer followed by custard and continue until the dish is full. Top with one pancake and allow to chill. Turn out and decorate with some whipped cream and chocolate chips.
Finally, you could even serve warm pancakes topped with your favourite ice cream. This is much like the way you would serve a waffle and it is simply delicious! Add your favourite ice cream topping or syrup for extra sweetness.
