Much like our food preferences, we also tend to change our beverage drinking habits based on the weather. For example, we tend to eat lighter in the summer months whereas our winter diet includes more comfort foods.
Wine can be enjoyed throughout the year but it’s good to remember that different types of wine suit different types of weather. When the weather is warm, we tend to opt for rosés and white wine since they are more refreshing. Robust reds are often a favourite once the weather gets colder since they tend to warm you up and they have a similar effect as comfort food.
Now, what about those weeks in between? What about those days when the weather is neither hot nor cold? Well, during such times, it’s actually easier to please your taste buds and those of your guests. If you are partial to red wine, then you can’t go wrong with Grenache- and Syrah-based wines. Another alternative is a bottle of Pinot Noir. This is usually quite the crowd pleaser so, if you are not sure what your guests prefer, this is usually a safe bet.
As for whites, you could opt for Roussanne, Vlognier, or Chardonnay. Again, just like the reds, one wine that is likely to please everyone is the Chardonnay. This wine has a wonderful flavour and is still refreshing enough to serve in autumn.
If none of these seem to suit your needs or preferences, there is one other option – sparkling wine or champagne. There are a number of different types of sparkling wine. These include sweet, semi-sweet, dry, and there are even those with flavours like peach! They are refreshing and will make your guests feel like they are being truly pampered.
