There is much talk about when you become a mother but many people don’t give much thought to how fathers feel. Unlike a mother, Dad doesn’t feel their baby every day as it grows. Sure, Mum has to deal with all the side effects but she also tends to be more connected on every level. When baby arrives, it’s quite a shock for Dad – albeit a pleasant one! It’s that much more difficult for him to really comprehend that his baby is finally here. Now, add Father’s Day to the mix and it will be even more overwhelming for him. This is why we need to make sure that he feels absolutely special on this important day.
When you want to spoil a new Dad, it’s all about him. Just as you would pamper Mum on Mother’s Day, so too should you give Dad the royal treatment. Let him do absolutely nothing on the day but relax and enjoy the perks of this celebration!
Since he is new Dad, you are a new Mum which means that it might be tough to do it all yourself. If you plan ahead, however, you really can make it work. Firstly, start by planning a gift for him. Think of something he likes and browse around online. The last thing you want is to have to carry baby everywhere while you desperately hunt for the perfect gift. So, instead, put your computer or mobile device to good use! Gift hampers make excellent gifts and they each come with a variety of delicious items and beverages. Beer hampers, wine hampers, and even sweet hampers are all wonderful ideas for Dad.
Once you have your gift planned, you should think about the kind of meal you want to serve. You could go out to eat but this is not always easy with a young baby. Cooking can take several hours if you don’t have something really simple in mind. Think of his favourite foods and make one or more of these dishes for him to enjoy. Make or buy his favourite dessert too while you’re at it! If you are far too exhausted to spend that much time in the kitchen, then you could order in. If possible, have the restaurant deliver so that you don’t need to lift a finger.
Other than a gift and food, you may want to let Dad take an afternoon nap and perhaps spend some quality time together watching his favourite movies. A foot rub couldn’t hurt and, remember, it is Father’s Day so make sure that you let your little one spend the day with their Dad too!
