Father’s Day is just around the corner and we all know that it’s all about him! From morning to night, Dad deserves to be spoilt rotten and this includes all his favourite foods. Now, when preparing a Father’s Day lunch or dinner, you want to make sure that you include a variety of food. Once you have planned your starter and main course, it’s time to think about dessert – the best part of the meal! For the most part, you can usually safely bet on one of the following:

Chocolate

Chocolate dessert is a huge favourite in many households. If Dad enjoys chocolate, then perhaps you might consider making a chocolate mousse, chocolate pie, or some kind of chocolate tart. For the most part, chocolate desserts are fairly simple and there are even those you can make from a box. Of course, if you are a culinary sensation, then cooking from scratch is probably a must for you! If you are not one for making desserts, simply visit your local bakery or cake shop and place an order in advance to avoid disappointment.

Fruit

Some people enjoy fruity flavours more than chocolate, toffee, or caramel. Fruit tarts are popular and you can make one large tart or several mini tarts. Fridge tarts are also great and made using fruit yogurt. If you like, you can add extra fruit by chopping some up and mixing with the yogurt mixture before allowing it to set. Once it is halfway set, you can decorate your tart with fruit slices too. A good tip to remember is to use canned fruit. This is because it will keep that much longer and you don’t have to worry about cleaning it.

Cream or Cake

Cakes can creamy desserts like trifle are also a great idea for the whole family. Again, when choosing a cake, you should choose Dad’s favourite. If you have young or fussy children who do not enjoy Dad’s pick, you can always make something separate just for them. Dad will surely understand and probably say something like, “More for me!”

Pudding

Although we are not in the middle of winter, pudding could still be on the menu. Puddings come in all sorts of flavours but the most popular are chocolate and vanilla. Cobblers are really easy to make and you can either make a saucy chocolate cobbler, or choose your favourite fruit for a fruit cobbler. Some good fruits to use include banana, apple, and peach. Apple cobbler is particularly delicious when topped with cinnamon and sugar! Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.
