Feel like spicing up your brew? Here are a few easy coffee syrup recipes that will make your coffee an even more delicious treat!
Vanilla Syrup:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- Seeds of 1 vanilla bean (and the pod)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
- Add the water, sugar, vanilla seeds and bean to a pot and place on your stove over a medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and allow to sit for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
- Add the vanilla extract.
- Pour through a fine sieve to remove any solid pieces like the vanilla seeds and pod.
- Store in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Caramel Syrup:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- ¾ cup water (divided)
- 1 tsp corn syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Method:
- Combine sugar and ¼ cup of water along with the corn syrup in a pot over a low heat.
- Stir until dissolved and then turn up the heat to medium and cover with a lid.
- Allow to boil for about 2 to 3 minutes before stiring quickly by carefully.
- Continue stiring while cooking until the mixture turns light amber in colour.
- Remove from heat and then add the remaining water very carefully. It’s really hot so you may notice a violent splatter in the beginning.
- Stir the vanilla and salt in before allowing to cool.
- Store in the fridge for as long as a couple of months.
Chocolate syrup:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup water
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
Method:
- Whisk together the cocoaand sugar in a medium pot and add the water with half of the salt.
- Whisk over a medium heat until it starts to boil. Stir constantly.
- Taste the mixture and add more salt if desired.
- Remove from heat and add the vanilla before allowing to cool.
- Store in the fridge for a month.
