Ice trays are great for so much more than just making ice. You can use your ice trays to make delicious treats and, apart from being really easy, they are perfect portions too! All you will need is a few basic ingredients.
What you need:
- Chocolate of your choice (white, milk, dark)
- Fruit of your choice
- Ice trays
Method:
- Start by preparing your ice trays. Make sure that they are clean and perfectly dry. You will be melting chocolate and, if it comes in contact with even a drop of water, it will seize.
- When choosing your fruit, you should make sure that any fruit you use is perfectly ripe. In many cases, it’s best to used canned fruit since it has already been preserved and it will help your chocolate treats las that much longer. Some favourites include berries, peaches, oranges, or you can use fresh banana. You could even use nuts or raisins if you prefer.
- Once your fruit is prepared and cut into portions that will fit the ice tray mold, you can melt the chocolate. You might like to use differen types of chocolate for different types of fruit. For example, orange and dark chocolate go well together. Berries and white chocolate are also a delicious combination while almost any fruit tastes even better with milk chocolate.
- Melt your chocolate and fill each hole in the ice tray with some chocolate before adding a piece of fruit or nuts. Cover with more chocolate and set aside.
- It’s best not to place your ice trays in the fridge or freezer because it will affect the texture and flavour of the chocolate. Be patient and let your chocolate set at room temperature for best results.
- Once set, simply pop the chocolates out and enjoy! You can also decorate your chocoaltes more by drizzling chocolate over the top. If you like, you can also use two types of chocolate in a single cube. For example, place white chocolate in first, add the piece of fruit and then add milk or dark chocolate. If you want to get creative with colours, use powder or oil-based food colouring to colour white chocolate.
