Fresh fruit makes an excellent dessert topping and different types of fruit add amazing flavour to various types of ice cream. The type of ice cream you use will depend on the type of fruit you have on hand. It’s all about creating the perfect flavour combinations to delight your taste buds.
Peaches
Peaches have a delicate flavour that is best complimented by vanilla ice cream. Most types of fruit taste great with vanilla but peaches work particularly well. You can use fresh peaches or peach preserves if you prefer.
Kiwi
You may have come across a number of kiwi and strawberry drinks and dishes. The next time you have a bowl of strawberry ice cream, try topping it with some fresh chopped kiwi. Make sure that they are ripe and properly cleaned before you proceed. There is something about the contrast of the sweet ice cream and the slightly sour kiwi that makes this a superb match.
Cherries
When adding cherries to ice cream, you are best off using rich chocolate or double chocolate ice cream. Make sure that you remove the seeds from the cherries before adding them. The last thing you want is to bite into one of those hard seeds or, worse yet, choke on one!
Strawberries
Strawberries taste delicious with chocolate. They are even better when accompanied by mint choc chip ice cream! The combination of all three of these delicious flavours makes it perfect to follow any meal or even as a sweet snack.
Remember, you can enhance these flavours even more by adding a dash of flavoured syrup too. For example, if you are using strawberries or strawberry ice cream, you can add a drizzle of strawberry syrup. Always make sure that the fruit you are using is fresh, ripe and only add fruit just before serving. Fruit can become discoloured and loose its freshness if you clean and slice it too far in advance.
