It’s happened to the best of us – guests arrive unexpectedly and the beer is too warm to swallow. Fortunately, there are some great ways of cooling beer down in a hurry so that you don’t have to let your guests go thirsty!
The first trick is highly effective and all you need is some ice, water and salt. When you add salt to the ice water, it will lower the freezing temperature of the water. The water will be cooled by the ice and it will chill that much more thanks to the salt. This will then help your beer cool down really fast. In just five minutes you can have a perfectly cold can of beer! Make sure that your beer is completely submerged in the salty ice water for the most effective and rapid cooling.
Another tried and tested method involves wetting a rag and wrapping it around the beer bottle or can. Place the wrapped can or bottle in the freezer and wait for up to 15 minutes. The damp cloth is completely surrounding the beer and it gets even colder than the air in the freezer! So, as the cloth gets colder, it cools the beer evenly from all points of the exterior.
There have also been some other theories involving a serpentine style tube design that runs through a container filled with ice. The beer is funneled into the entrance of the tube at the top of the ice box and it slowly winds and twists its way through the tubes to the bottom. The beer is supposed to be poured slowly in order to keep it in contact with the surrounding ice for a long enough period of time. When the beer exits the tube at the base and fills your glass, it should be crisp and cool!
Remember, once you have chilled your first round of beers, it would be a good idea to refrigerate the rest! You wouldn’t want to be forced to rush the cooling process all over again! By the time you finish your first drink, the next round should be perfectly chilled and ready to enjoy.
