When hosting a party, no matter the occasion, nothing goes down better than crispy chips and a variety of dips. There are a number of ready-made dips available at your local supermarket but there are also some delicious recipes for homemade dips! The homemade versions are understandably more nutritious and they have amazing flavour too! Here are some popular dip recipes that are sure to keep your guests coming back for more.
Guacamole
Ingredients:

  • Ripe avocados (diced)
  • White onion (finely chopped)
  • Jalapeno (seeded and finely chopped)
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • Fresh lime or lemon juice
  • Tomato finely copped (without seeds)
  • Salt and pepper

Method:

  • Combine the jalapeno pepper, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, ¾ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper in a large bowl.
  • Use a fork to mash together the ingredients until they start to release juices.
  • Add the avocados and the lime or lemon juice and lightly mash to blend everything together.

 
Caramelised Onion Dip
Ingredients:

  • Unsalted butter
  • 2 medium onions (sliced thin)
  • salt and pepper
  • 8 ounces of cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Fresh chives (chopped)

Method:

  • Melt the butter in a pan over low heat and cook your onions with ½ teaspoon of salt. Cook and stir occasionally until they are golden brown (30 – 35 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Mix the onions, cream cheese, chives, sour cream, 1/8 teaspoon of pepper, and ¼ teaspoon of salt together in a bowl.
  • Garnish with some chopped chives.

 
Pico de Gallo
Ingredients:

  • 1lb tomatoes (seeded and chopped)
  • 1 jalapeno (seeded and finely chopped)
  • 1/2 onion (finely chopped)
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • ½ tsp salt and ¼ tsp pepper

Method:

  • Combine the tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper in a medium bowl and mix well before serving.

 
Horse radish and dill dip
Ingredients:

  • 8oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup horseradish
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 2 Tbsp fresh dill (chopped)
  • salt

Method:

  • Combine all of the ingredients except for the dill in a medium bowl.
  • Stir until light and fluffy.
  • Add the dill, mix, and serve.
