Whether you want to send a cheese hamper to a friend or you want to serve a cheese platter to your guests, it’s always important to get the pairing just right. Camembert cheese is delicious and satisfying. It can be paired with a variety of different kinds of drinks so keep the options below in mind when making your selection.

Cider is one of the most popular choices in drinks to pair with Camembert. Apple cider is slightly bitter which allows is to compliment the cheese in just the right way. Sparkling ciders are even better so, if you can, choose one of the sparkling varieties.

Pommeau is stronger than cider and it’s perfect for when the cheese is particularly soft in the middle. Camembert has a firm rind but inside you will enjoy a very soft cheese. This middle section can get a bit oozy but that makes it even more delicious!

Champagne is perfect as a gift or when entertaining. Just like sparkling cider, there’s something about the bubbles that make this a wonderful match. If you plan on baking the cheese, then you should definitely try enjoying it with a bottle of bubbly.

Chenin Blanc wines are also a popular combination since it has a bit of an apple taste, the right smoothness and weight. Alternatively, if you prefer a fruity red, you could choose a Pinot Noir or even a Merlot. You don’t want the alcohol content to exceed 13.5% though or it will too big and overpower the flavours of the cheese. It also should be less than 13% because this could allow the cheese to overpower the wine and, again, this is not the effect you want to achieve.

When serving Camembert cheese, remember to serve a variety of breads and crackers as well as other side items to give your pallet a bit of a break from all the rich flavours.
