When you think of pairing drinks with food, you might automatically think about the right types of food to enjoy with red wine, white wine and other alcoholic beverages.  Teas also need to be properly pared with foods in order to ensure that both food and drink can be enjoyed to their fullest.

White tea
White teas have a very delicate flavour and aroma.  So, you need to pair them with equally delicately flavoured foods.  If you pair this type of tea with strong flavoured foods, you will not be able to enjoy it at all.  The best foods to enjoy with white teas include vegetables and salads and remember to go easy on the seasoning and dressing!

Green tea
There are various types of green teas.  These include vegetal, smoky and fruity varieties.  Vegetal green teas have an almost grassy flavour and are best paired with mild foods like seafood, fish or chicken.  Smoky varieties work best with turkey or chicken.  They can also be enjoyed with a stir-fry and even pizza!  Fruity varieties can be served with light meats, fruit salads and even sandwiches.

Oolong tea
Oolong tea comes in light and dark varieties.  The light varieties work well with rich seafoods and other lightly salted snacks.  Dark oolongs are more prominent in flavour and can be enjoyed with grilled duck, trout, salmon and similar meats.  Certain pastries also go well with this kind of tea.

Black tea
Black teas are available in three main varieties.  These are fruity, smoky and earthy.  Fruity black teas are wonderful when enjoyed with sweet treats and pastries.  Smoky black teas can be paired with dark or blackened meats since they have a strong flavour. They do not, however, work well with sweets.  Earthy types can be enjoyed with blackened meats, mashed potatoes and gravy.  They are not suitable for pairing with sweets.
