In the cold winter months it is very easy to indulge in the wrong foods. Baked goods, chocolates and sweets are everywhere, especially during the holiday season, and are practically impossible to resist. In addition to weight problems, your body’s immune system may also end up paying the price for a lack of vitamins. During the winter season it is extremely important to maintain a diet rich in vitamins and eating fruit is essential. Now, if you don’t like eating fruit in winter, here are some ideas to help you get used to the idea!
Fruit salad
A delicious and healthy fruit salad can be enjoyed any time of year. Simply cut and chop your favourite fruit and mix them together! If you add canned fruit to the mix, you can add a little syrup to sweeten up your fruit in winter. In summer you can enjoy a fruit salad with vanilla ice cream, while in winter it is delicious on its own.
Fondue
Chocolate fondues are a great social activity and a delicious way of enjoying fruit in winter. With a chocolate fondue you get the best of both worlds: fruit and chocolate! Not to mention quality time with your friends and loved ones.
Compote fruit
There are many different types of fruit that are delicious stewed. If you want just one type of fruit you can serve it alone or you can prepare a composed fruit salad. You can also choose to serve it alone or with a little vanilla ice cream or even custard.
Jam
If you have a lot of fruit and don’t want it to go bad before you can enjoy it, you can make your own jam. Jam is very simple to make and will come in handy when serving pancakes or even when baking the next batch of muffins or other pastries. Jam is a great way of enjoying fruit in winter and throughout the year.
Baked fruit desserts
Like compote fruit, fruit can also be used in toasted fruit desserts. Some popular examples include cherries, peaches, and plums, but you can get creative! Depending on the fruit or fruits you choose, you can glaze them or dress them with a good dessert wine or your favourite sauce.
Add to other foods
The fruit is used in many different products that we enjoy regularly. If you eat yogurt every day or even every other day, you can cut up some extra fruit and add it to the yogurt. You can also add fruit to your morning cereal. Fresh fruit is especially delicious mixed with granola and yogurt! This is a wonderful way of starting your day with fruit in winter, summer and whenever you have a sweet tooth in the morning.
So there’s no need to waste fruit! Some types of fruit, such as berries, can easily be frozen and then used for jams, sauces and pies. The key is to preserve the fruit (or eat it) before it goes bad. By enjoying fruit in winter, as well as in the summer season, you will also give your immune system just what it needs to keep you healthy and full of energy.
