Many people think of smoothies as nutritious drinks or even meal replacements. If you have received a generous fruit hamper and you don’t know what to do with all that fruit, smoothies should be on the menu! Of course, if you want to spice things up a little, you can turn your smoothie into something more like a cocktail! Here are some delicious alcoholic smoothie recipes to try!

Pineapple and Coconut Boozy Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 banana (ripe, peeled, cut into chunks and frozen)
- 1 cup pineapple
- ½ cup coconut milk
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 cup ice cubes
- ¼ cup sugar or substitute with honey, agave, stevia, etc
- 1/3 cup fruit of your choice (mango, peaches, papaya, honeydew, etc)
- ¼ cup yogurt
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 scoop neutral or vanilla protein powder
- Approximately a handful of coconut flakes
- 2 ounces rum (Malibu is a popular choice for its coconut flavour)
Method:
Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Serve right away or store for up to 2 months in the freezer. If you freeze this smoothie, make sure that you allow it to defrost in the fridge until it is soft enough to be pulsed in the blender. Now blend the kiwis, remaining mint, rum and ice before pouring over the strawberry mixture. Garnish with some fresh mint and strawberries.

The key to creating a delicious alcoholic smoothie is pairing the right fruit with the appropriate alcohol. Remember, dark rum, light rum and coconut rum each have their own distinct taste. It’s also important not to add too much alcohol or it will overpower the fruity flavour. The point is to create a balanced beverage.
