If you have tasted the sweet joy that is a chocolate fondue, you will know just what a success it can be the next time you host a party. Fondues are great for events of all sizes. Whether you want to enjoy a romantic evening with your partner or spouse, or you would like to create an impressive dessert display on your buffet table, a fondue could be just what you need.
You need:

  • 12 ounces of dark chocolate (roughly chopped into small pieces)
  • 8 ounces of heavy cream
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • Warm the cream slowly. Make sure that you heat it over moderate heat until you see small bubbles around the edge of the pot. If you want to play it extra safe, you can use the double boiler method. To do this, you will need to place the pot of cream on top of the pot with hot water. This is great for preventing the chocolate from burning and seizing.
  • Now you can add the salt and chocolate to the warmed cream.
  • Whisk together until completely melted and blended.
  • Transfer the melted chocolate to your chocolate fondue pot or you can serve straight from the pot. You need to keep the pot slightly heated in order to prevent the chocolate from solidifying before you’ve used it all. Keep the heat low or you could burn the chocolate rather than just keeping it warm.
  • Once the chocolate starts to run low, you will need to prepare another pot so that you can top it up for your guests.
  • Prepare all of your dipping ingredients. These include fresh fruit, marshmallows, biscuits, and anything else that you fancy coating with chocolate.

You will need to keep plenty of plates, skewers, and napkins on hand. If possible, skewer your dipping items and set aside a spoon to top items that cannot be skewered (like biscuits). By doing so, you prevent your guests from double dipping. In other words, using the same skewer over and over which can be unhygienic.
If you are not sure what kinds of fruit to include, consider berries, dried fruit, apples, kiwi, banana, oranges, and clementines. Remmeber that water can make melted chocolate seize which is why you should wash and pat dry your fruit before placing it on platters for your guests.
Don’t forget to serve the right beverages too. Make sure that whatever you select, it pairs well with chocolate. Champagne, sparkling wine, and hot beverages like various kinds of coffee and tea are all good ideas.
