Whether someone sent you a picnic basket years ago or you have an old basket that’s taking up space in the shed or garage, there’s always a better option than tossing it away. Wicker baskets have incredible character and can be used in so many amazing ways!

Shelves

One of the best ways to add a creative touch to any room is to hang wicker baskets on the walls and use them as shelves. You will need to remove the lid and secure the base of the bin to the wall. These baskets are great for storing and displaying items that aren’t too heavy. While the basket probably won’t break overnight, the heavy weight can cause it to bend. Bath towels, toilet paper, picture frames, and other lightweight items are perfect!

Craft box

Tired of your art supplies ending up all over the house? Turn your wicker picnic basket into your very own arts and crafts container! Pack smaller items in shoe boxes and similar containers to keep everything even more organized.

Drawers

If you have a table with shelves or have some extra space under the counter, you can use wicker baskets as drawers! Just measure the space you have available to make sure your bin will fit. As with shelves, it’s best to remove the lids from the racks for easy access. If you use them on the floor under the bed or other similar spaces, you can even attach wheels to the bottom of the bin to prevent them from scratching floors.

Toy box

It seems that children always collect an incredible number of toys. This can be a real problem when it comes to space. Use your old picnic basket and turn it into a toy box! You can even paint it to make cleaning time fun for your little one.

Refined crockery container

If you want to keep your best dinnerware in pristine condition, it’s important to store each piece carefully. You can put everything in a picnic basket and insert bubble wrap in the center for extra protection. Alternatively, you can insert and secure thin pieces of wood vertically inside the basket. This way individual slots are created and each card will have its own space!

Book exhibition

Encourage reading in your home by displaying your favorite books! A picnic basket is ideal for this. You can place the basket next to your favorite chair, in your bedroom or anywhere you want to relax.

Potted plants

If your picnic basket isn’t in the best shape, you can still put it to great use. Potted plants can be placed inside the basket, but make sure they all have drip trays to prevent the basket from getting soaked every time you water the plants. If your plants are small or short, you can place some kind of support under the pot. A block of Styrofoam or even a block of wood will do wonders!

With all of these ideas in mind, there’s really no reason to toss that old picnic basket. Put it to good use and make your home feel even more like home!
