If you want to lose some extra pounds, summer is the perfect time of year to do just that. The weather is warmer and the days are longer. You won’t be craving for sweets quite as much but, if you do, you can always enjoy a delicious summer smoothie.

Mango Smoothie

  • ¼ cup mango cubes
  • ½ cup mango juice
  • ¼ cup avocado (mashed)
  • 1 Tbsp lime juice
  • ¼ cup vanilla yogurt (fat-free)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • Ice cubes

Place all of the ingredients for this summer smoothie in a blender and process together until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a tall glass. Garnish with a slice of mango before serving. This drink contains less than 300 calories. If you want more protein, you can also add two scoops of protein powder to the mixture.

Peach Smoothie

  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1 cup peaches (frozen and unsweetened)
  • 2 tsp flaxseed oil (cold-pressed)

In a blender, combine the peaches and milk before processing for 1 minute. Pour into a glass before adding your flaxseed oil and serving. One serving has just over 200 calories and this summer smoothie is really satisfying.

Blueberry Smoothie

  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1 cup blueberries (frozen and unsweetened)
  • 1 Tbsp flaxseed oil (cold-pressed)

Combine the milk and blueberries in your blender and process for 1 minute. Pour into a glass before adding the flaxseed oil and enjoy. This is a real winner with plenty of antioxidants and less than 300 calories.

Apple Smoothie

  • ½ cup soy or skim milk
  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • 1 medium apple (peeled and chopped)
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 2 Tbsp cashew butter
  • Ice (approximately a handful)

Blend all of the ingredients together for 1 minute. Serve in a glass with a spoon since this is a particularly thick summer smoothie. This one is higher in calories with just under 500 but it can be enjoyed as a meal replacement.

While these summer smoothie recipes all include a single type of fruit, you can also combine different fruits for an even more enjoyable and nutritious drink. If you don’t normally enjoy breakfast, a smoothie could be just what you need to kick start your day.
