If you, like many of us, tend to do a fair bit of cooking for the holidays, you will most likely end up with a fair amount of leftovers. There is no need to discard any of this delicious food. Especially after you worked so hard to cook it all. Instead, here is a delicious idea that will help you put all of that leftover meat to good use.

Prepare your pastry

The most delicious idea that will help you use those leftover cuts of meat is to bake them together in a pie. You will need to prepare your pie dish and either buy or make your own crust to line the bottom. You will need another portion to top your pie but set this aside for now.

Making the filling

The next step in this delicious idea is to take all of your leftover meat and cut it into small pieces. If you have some vegetables, you can chop them into smaller pieces too (if necessary) and mix with your meat. Remember, you can combine different types of meat. You can also fry some chopped onion to add to the mixture of meat and vegetables.

Add gravy

A pie needs some moisture since the pastry and meat can otherwise be quite dry. If you have leftover gravy, you can use this. If you don’t have any gravy, you can make some using some stock thickened with flour. You should bring the gravy to a boil and allow to simmer for several minutes in order to make sure that it is properly cooked. Once ready, mix it with your meat and vegetables before placing on your pastry base.

Time to bake

All you need to do next is top your pie with pastry and bake for about 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. You can apply an egg wash to the top of the pie and bake for another few minutes until perfectly browned.

Once you are done, you can serve your scrumptious pie and share with friends or neighbours so that they too can enjoy this delicious idea! You may even inspire them to do the same with all of their leftovers so that nothing needs to go to waste again.
