The holidays are a time when we usually go all out in terms of meals and snacks. Not only do you want to ensure that you serve an impressive meal on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but you also want to have snacks and treats to keep your children happy leading up to the big day and even between Christmas and the New Year. Here are some delicious Christmas treats that younger family members will really enjoy. Some are so simple that you can even have your kids lend a hand in the kitchen.

Oreo pops

To make these fun Christmas treats, all you need to do is insert a lollipop stick in the middle of Oreo biscuits. While the white centre is usually good for holding the stick in place, you could also use white chocolate to make it more secure. Simply dip the stick in the melted chocolate before inserting it and allow them to set before placing them upright. You can then stick on fondant eyes and a red nose. You can use mini pretzels to create antlers and you have your fun reindeer snacks!

Holiday fruit salad

If you would prefer healthy Christmas treats that are still colourful and fun, you should make some fruit salad. Cut some slices of kiwi, then cut them in half. Cut one rectangular piece to create a tree trunk and place the half slices on top to create a Christmas tree. You can place several slices next to one another for each layer of the tree. Next, add small berries like raspberries and blueberries to decorate. You can even cut a star out of some pineapple for the top.

Christmas tree brownies

If you enjoy baking brownies, you can make them from scratch. Alternatively, you can buy them a day or two ahead of time. You will need to colour some white chocolate green with a powder or oil-based food colourant. If you use anything water-based, it will cause the chocolate to seize. Use a piping bag to create a Christmas tree design with the green chocolate on each brownie. Next, decorate with sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft so that the sprinkles stick in place.

Healthy celery reindeer

Another healthy option when it comes to Christmas treats are celery reindeer. Fill celery stalks with peanut butter before adding raspberries for noses, mini pretzels for antlers and fondant or choc chips for the eyes.

Fruity Santas

Put a slice of banana on a toothpick and add a green grape on top and a strawberry on the other end. The grape represents Santa’s face while the strawberry is his hat. You can also place a mini marshmallow on top of the strawberry to top off the hat.

Chocolate strawberry trees

Colour some white chocolate green using powder or oil-based food colouring. Dip strawberries in the chocolate and decorate with sprinkles. You should insert a toothpick into the base of the strawberries for easy dipping and you should insert the toothpick into some polystyrene to hold them upright as the chocolate dries.

These are some of the most delicious Christmas treats that you can make for and even with your children over the holiday period. Remember, even if you cannot let them do any dipping, you can have them add the sprinkles once you are ready.
