Many people think of fresh fruit as nature’s way of treating our sweet cravings without too many calories. Of course, we don’t always need to eat fruit all on its own just to enjoy something sweet. Here are some interesting ways in which you can add fruit to otherwise savoury foods.

Apple and Celery salad

If you enjoy the crispy sweetness of apples, you should consider adding them to your next salad. Apples taste wonderful with celery and you can top them off with some hazelnuts. Walnuts are also great if you want to add come colour and even more flavour. Nuts and fresh fruit go very well together and you can be sure that they will both make celery taste even better.

Toasted roast beef with pear

If you enjoy toasted sandwiches, you should try combining roast beef with pear on your next sandwich. You might not think that fresh fruit goes well with meat, but this will convince you otherwise. You might like to add some blue cheese too.

Pork and peach combo

Like like beef and pear, you could combine pork with peach. Coat the pork with flour, egg, breadcrumbs and some of your favourite spices before cooking. Keep warm while you chop your fresh fruit and add some mustard, salt and parsley. Serve your peaches on the side or drizzle over the top of the meat.

Duck and pineapple curry

You can also pair duck with pineapple if you plan on making curry. Of course, if you prefer chicken curry, you can add some apricots. There is something about the combination of sweet and spicy that always seems to work.

Feta, olives and strawberries

Toss together some chopped up pickled feta, olives and strawberries. You can add some red onion and spinach leaves to complete your salad. Not only will be prove rich in flavour, but it will look just as great as it tastes too!

If you are still sceptical about adding fresh fruit to savoury dishes, you can always start out slow and easy. Add some fresh cut apple to your green salad, for example. You can also add some slices of apples or pears to your cheese sandwich. It also helps to serve your fruity sauces on the side just in case you’re not sure whether or not you will enjoy the combination.
