There’s a lot of fun to be had in the kitchen if you have children. Not only are homemade treats a healthier option compared to packaged goodies from the shop. But, they also give you the chance to spend time with your children in the kitchen teaching them important life skills. If you are not sure where to start, here are some great ideas of sweet treats they can help you make.

Cupcakes

Their level of involvement will depend on their age. For example, the younger your child is, the more care must be taken to help them hold the mixer, pour the mixture into each mould and you will need to handle the oven part. Older children can start learning how to operate the oven (under supervision of course) and how to insert and remove food from the oven with care. The best part of all is decorating the cupcakes and this is where you can let your kids really have fun.

Pancakes

Again, you might need to hold their hand and guide the mixer if it is too heavy for them. A stand mixer is great for making homemade treats with children because they can simply turn it on and off themselves without having to hold it. Once the batter is ready, you can have your children ladle the mixture into the pan and show them how to spread it out before cooking and flipping. Once done, you can let them have fun with their toppings.

Truffles

These homemade treats are easy and fun to make. You don’t need to cook anything so there’s no risk of burning. All you need to do is mix your ingredients and roll them up into balls. Set them on a tray with parchment paper to set and you’re all done.

Biscuits

This is a really fun option if you want to make homemade treats for a specific occasion. For instance, if you want to bake Christmas cookies, you can prepare all your festive cookie cutters. Let your children help you add the ingredients to make the dough. Let them help you mix the dough if it’s not too tough and then show them how to roll it out. Once rolled, have them cut out the shapes and help them place the unbaked cookies on a lined baking tray. Let them help you insert the tray into the oven and, depending on their age, remove once cooked. Since the cookies will be hot, you should remove them from the tray and place them on a cooling rack yourself while they cut out the next batch.

These are a few delicious and easy ideas for homemade treats that you can make with your children no matter their age. Depending on their age, they will be able to get more involved. Don’t forget to ask for their help with the clean up too!
