Christmas leftovers are something we need to deal with every year. Instead of tossing anything out or stuffing it in the freezer, you could make a delicious meaty pie! You don’t need a lot of extra ingredients. For the most part, you will use what you already have in your fridge.

Pastry

To make life easy, you could make your way to your local supermarket and pick up some frozen puff pastry. If you have a pastry recipe that you know and love, you can always opt for this approach. There is no right or wrong answer as far as pastry is concerned. It all comes down to personal preference.

Filling

You may have more than one type of meat leftover. Most likely you have chicken or turkey, possibly some ham and you could even have some lamb or beef. Chop all the cooked meat up in small pieces and make sure you remove any bones. Chop up about two cups of yellow onion and fry until tender before mixing it up with your chopped meat.

Gravy

Add gravy to this mixture. If you have leftover gravy, this is a great use for it. If not, you can easily make some using gravy powder or even stock with flour to thicken. Make sure that the meat and onions are properly mixed with the gravy before you place it on top of the first layer of pastry.

Close and bake

Add another layer of pastry to the top of your pie and bake for approximately 15 minutes at 180 degrees. Remove from the oven and apply an egg wash. Place back in the oven and bake until the top has browned beautifully.

Now you have a scrumptious pie made from leftover Christmas meat! If you like, you can modify this recipe by adding chopped vegetables too. Alternatively, you can stick to the meaty filling and serve veggies on the side. Either way, you can rest assured that your holiday meal will be enjoyed in a whole new way!
