The festive season usually has us cooking up a storm. Which means that we often end up with a load of leftovers. While some end up tossing their holiday leftovers in the garbage, this is such a waste and you can still do so much with all that delicious food.

Freeze them

If you have space in your freezer and your food is still reasonably fresh, you can put some holiday leftovers in the freezer. To make life easier, freeze them in portions so that you can take out one meal-sized portion at a time. You should also label your food to prevent any confusion.

Tacos and wraps

Spruce up those holiday leftovers by cutting them up and creating delicious tacos and wraps. You can fill taco shells and wraps with just about anything you like. Imagine sliced roast chicken or turkey along with lettuce, tomato, perhaps some cheese and even a dressing or sour cream. You can make veggie tacos and wraps too.

Casseroles

Toss your sliced or chopped meat and veggies together and place them in a casserole dish. Pour some white sauce over the top and bake. Once baked and the sauce is nice and thick, you can top with grated cheese and enjoy a scrumptious helping of holiday leftovers in the form of comfort food!

Waffles, pancakes and cake pops

If you have sweet holiday leftovers like biscuits, you can always crumble them up to make some special waffles or pancakes. Add crumbled biscuits to the batter and you will love the new flavour and texture it creates. If you have leftover sponge cake, you can make some delicious cake pops. Even if the cake has hardened slightly, this is not a problem. Just crumble it up, add melted chocolate or icing sugar before you roll balls, coat and decorate. If you are not in the mood for sweets, you can make the cake pop balls and freeze them. You will need to thaw them out properly and slowly before inserting the stick and coating them. Do not rush this process.

Donate

If you have no space in your freezer and far too much holiday leftovers to eat on your own, you can always reach out and donate to those in need. If you know a family or charity that could use some delicious food for the homeless, it’s a great way of avoiding waste.

These are some excellent uses for holiday leftovers and you can do this anytime you have an event like an anniversary or birthday that leaves you with lots of food at the end of the day.
