Halloween is the perfect time of year to turn your favourite recipes into spooky treats. These Halloween cake pops are not only delicious, but they are also perfect for the theme and they are super easy to make as well! You can make them for your guests, send some with your children to school and even make gifts for your friends, family and neighbours. Once you see how easy they are to make, you will wonder why you’ve never tried this before.
What you need:
- Sponge cake of your choice
- Icing sugar to bind the cake
- White chocolate (melted)
- Smarties or M&Ms
- Icing pens to decorate
- Cake pop sticks
- Mini pumpkin or half butternut squash for displaying your cake pops
Method:
- Crumble your sponge cake to begin with.
- Melt your chocolate in small quantities at a time. Use your first batch of melted chocolate for securing the sticks inside your cake pops.
- Mix your icing sugar with the crumbled cake until you can form solid balls of cake.
- Form the balls and place them on a tray or plate.
- Dip the sticks one by one in the melted chocolate and insert them slowly into the cake pops. Do not insert too far. They should only reach the middle of the cake pop.
- Refrigerate until the chocolate is set and the sticks are secure in the pops.
- Prepare a temporary stand for your cake pops to set. Polystyrene works really well.
- Dip the pops one by one in the melted white chocolate. Allow the excess chocolate to drip back into the pot before setting the pop in the stand to set completely.
- While you allow them to set, you can prepare your irises and pupils for the eyes. Green and blue are the best choices in colours. Add a pupil using one of your icing pens.
- Dip the Smarties one by one in the white chocolate before securing them to the cake pops. Hold them in place until secure and then allow them to set.
- Add the final touches like veining with your icing pens.
- Display in a spooky holder and enjoy!
As you can see, you only need a few ingredients and they are really easy to find. If you are planning on presenting them as gifts, you will need to get some clear cellophane or similar plastic to wrap each pop or wrap your pop arrangement before presenting it to the recipient.
