When you think about hosting a BBQ or grill, you probably imagine several types of meat on that grill. Since more and more people are choosing to limit or eliminate their meat consumption, vegetarian lifestyles are becoming increasingly popular. If you are hosting a BBQ and one or more of your guests is vegetarian, you might not know what to put on the grill for them. Here are some of the top choices.

Corn

Corn on the cob is absolutely scrumptious on the grill. Especially if you season with a little bit of salt and add some butter. It’s a popular treat for the kids too and a very healthy option.

Aubergine (Eggplant)

Aubergines are soft on the inside but their tough skin will help them hold their shape on the grill. Make sure that you cut them into thick slices before grilling. Add a little bit of salt and enjoy the natural flavours.

Portobello Mushrooms

Larger mushrooms are great for grilling because they are easier to handle. You can season them lightly with some salt and herbs if you like. If you enjoy garlic, you can add some garlic once they are almost cooked or you can serve some garlic butter on the side. These mushrooms can also be filled with cheese.

Onions

There is nothing like the smell of onions cooking! It’s absolutely mouth-watering. If you are planning on grilling onions, make sure that you cut them into thick rings since they shrink as they cook. You don’t need to season them because they taste delicious all on their own.

Bell peppers

Available in various colours, peppers are delicious on the grill! The green variety has a more spicy flavour while the red peppers are sweeter. Your choice really comes down to personal preference.

Kebabs

If you like, you can even make some veggie kebabs. If you do, then you will need to cut your veggies into chunks rather than rings or slices. Alternate between your veggies and consider adding cherry tomatoes in between as well.

If you are unsure about the best veggies to serve at your next BBQ, you can always ask your vegetarian friend or friends to indicate their preferences. Remember, you should also make extra because your other guests are bound to want some too once they smell the delicious aromas coming off that grill!
