Cheese and wine are a delicious pair. That said, it is important to remember that there are good pairings and not so good pairings. If you are planning on serving Prosecco, you should know that there are several suitable cheese pairings. It all depends on whether you are enjoying your Prosecco along with an entrée, main course or dessert.

For the entrée

For a starter, you can serve a Caprese salad. This is a delicious yet simple Italian salad consisting of fresh Mozzarella cheese balls, delicious tomatoes and sweet basil. Season with some salt and olive oil. If you like you can drizzle some balsamic vinegar over the top as well. If you would like to make these really easy to serve and eat, you can make small kebabs by using cherry tomatoes and serving fresh basil on the side.

Another delicious Italian cheese to pair with your Prosecco is Burrata. It is a buffalo milk cheese that consists of mozzarella and cream. Grana Padano is a delicious cheese for grating and it is known for its milder flavour so it will not overpower the Prosecco.

Main course

A mushroom and mozzarella omelette is a delicious main course to serve along with a refreshing glass of Prosecco. If you like, you can add a touch of garlic and even some nutmeg.

Dessert

Simplicity is best if you want to enjoy your Prosecco without allowing it to overpower the cheese or allowing the cheese to overpower the Prosecco. Ricotta with honey is a delicious treat to enjoy with your glass of bubbly. You will need to drain the cheese for about an hour before placing the cheese into moulds and refrigerate until chilled. Turn them out onto plates and top with some honey. You can also sprinkle some toasted pine nuts and/or walnuts over the top for more flavour and crunch.

Prosecco is a wonderful drink that can be enjoyed in many ways and with various dishes. It’s not only the bubbles that make this drink so delightful. The delicate flavours are an absolute treat. Just remember that you need to chill your Prosecco before serving.
