Bread sticks are a delicious treat and they can be enjoyed as a snack or you can serve them before your dinner. When you serve the ready made variety, they are not necessarily as delicious or healthy as the home made kind. Since they are so easy to make, you don’t need to buy them again.
Ingredients for the dough:
- 1 ¼ cup warm milk
- 4 Tbsp butter (softened)
- 1 ½ Tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 ¼ tsp dry yeast
- ¼ cup warm water
- 3 ½ cups flour (all purpose)
Ingredients for the topping:
- 2 Tbsp butter (softened)
- 1 ½ teasp Italian seasoning (crushed)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese (grated freshly)
Instructions:
- Use a stand mixer with the dough hook fitted to mix the warm milk, sugar, butter and salt. Once mixed, set aside.
- Stir the yeast into some warm water and allow to stand for 5 minutes.
- Add the dissolved yeast to the first mixture and add 3 cups of flour. Mix until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- If necessary, you can add the remaining ½ cup of flour but do so 2 tablespoons at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
- Knead the dough for 6 to 8 minutes until elastic and smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- Allow to rise until doubled in side. It take about 1 ½ hours.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Gently press the dough down and turn out onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
- Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into strips.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and spread it over the dough with a pastry brush. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and some Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 16 to 19 minutes or until lightly browned.
You can serve these bread sticks with various types of dipping sauce to enhance their flavour even more.
