Meringues are delicious and they are also really easy to make. It will take some time for them to bake but, overall, the process is really simple! Here’s how to make your own meringues with a delicious peppermint twist.
Ingredients:
- 2 egg whites
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 2 peppermint candy canes (crushed)
- 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 110 degrees C. When baking meringues, you don’t want your oven to be too hot.
- In a large metal or glass mixing bowl, beat the egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt. Beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Spoon the mixture onto the baking tray and make sure that they are about 1 inch apart.
- Spinkle some peppermint candy over the uncooke meringues.
- Bake for 90 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Make sure that they are completely dry all the way through. They should not start to brown.
- Turn off your oven, open the door, and allow the merignes to cool off inside the oven.
- Once cool, they can be enjoyed or stored in a cool dry place for up to 2 months.
