The holiday season is usually associated with gifts, seasonal beverages, and an abundance of your favourite foods. Excessive eating and lack of exercise often leads us to promise ourselves that we will lose weight in the New Year. It’s important to remember that a resolution can be broken but real lifestyle changes are much easier to follow. If you want to lose weight, it’s best to start by eating right!
Reduced sugar
Sugar is a major culprit when it comes to weight gain. You might not want to cut sugar out altogether but, instead, make the change gradually. If you are looking for sugar substitutes, remember that artificial sugar can do more harm than good. It’s much better to opt for honey, stevia, or another natural alternative.
Increased veggie intake
Non-starchy vegetables are excellent for their nutritional value and for helping you shed those extra pounds. It’s often easier to add veggies to your lunch or dinner but you should also try adding them to your breakfst table too.
Chew and taste
When you eat in a rush, it results in food not being chewed properly. Not chewing properly can lead to weight gain for a number of reasons including the fact that you tend to overeat. By chewing and enjoying your meals, you give your stomach time to realise when it’s full. If you shovel too much down your throat too quickly, you will feel full and, later, you will feel over full.
Snack on fruit
Fruit is great for satisfying those sugar cravings and they offer plenty of nutritional benefits. Snacking on fruit is the perfect solution when it comes to avoiding unhealthy snacks.
Stock up with the right foods
If you have unhealthy foods in your home, you are bound to eat them. On the other hand, if you can resist the urge to buy these foods, you stand a better chance of success when it comes to your diet.
